Each player and the dealer are dealt two cards.  The dealer’s hole card is down.

Players decide whether to “Hit” or “Stay” based on the total of their two cards compared to the card the dealer has showing.

There is an actuary table worked out for Blackjack.  It’s called Basic Strategy.  Basic Strategy tells a player when to “Hit” and when to “Stay” based on the player’s total versus the dealer’s total.  I sometimes refer to it at “Simon Says.”

You can find copies of the Basic Strategy tables in any book about Blackjack.  You can also find Basic Strategy charts on small pieces of plastic that will fit behind the cellophane on a package of cigarettes.  Those small cards are usually available in casino gift shops.

A major hidden purpose to this game is to be in the hand if the dealer busts and then all of the players win.  Do not be encouraged to keep hitting your hand.  Mathematically you can only take so many cards before you “bust.”

One of the basic principles of this game that many players miss is this -  the fourth card will “Bust” your hand 90% of the time and a fifth card pushes 98%.

Basic Strategy would tell a player to “Hit” their hand if they need to beat their perception of the dealer’s total, and to “Stay” if the dealer needs to “Hit” and hopefully “Bust” (go over 21 points) their hand.  Justify that information with the previous paragraph about the fourth and fifth cards.  Logic would say that each hand is independent, but the reason a good card counter has an advantage is that there are cards in the deck valued from one point to 10 points.  Each time you take a card and don’t “Bust” your hand, you’re pushing the odds to take another one.  FOLLOW BASIC STRATEGY.

One of the newer books on winning Blackjack deals with when to “Hit” and when to “Stay” The theory is that the player should always assume that the dealer has 8-1/2 in the hole.  It’s another good guideline, but it is amazing how many times the dealer will have a 10 in the hole when they’re showing a 7.

Given the value of the cards in the deck you need to understand that there are 16 10-value cards in the deck.  That is 16 out of 52 – around 30%.  Add to that the Aces, 8s, and 9s and you’ve got 28 out of 52 cards – over 50% – that will make a good hand for the dealer showing a 10 or an Ace, and slightly less percentages for the 8s and 9s.

The difference between the Dealer and the players is that the Dealer has to have at least 17 points to stop taking cards.  No choice on their part.  So, if a dealer is showing a 5 or less there is no way they can have 17 points.  It would be foolish for a player to hit any total over 13 and “Bust” their hand and then be out of the game if the Dealer “Busts.”  The phrase that explains the concept is “Don’t ‘Bust’ your hand if the Dealer can ‘Bust’ their hand.”  Sometimes it’s right and sometimes it’s wrong.  Again, percentages.

That last sentence is one you want to go over again – Sometimes it’s right and sometimes it’s wrong.  This is gambling after all – you pay your money and you take your chances.  The two things you can hope for is a “Zone” when everything falls into your lap, and/or enough knowledge to play the percentages in your favor.

The main point to playing winning Blackjack is that one hand is one hand.  If you follow sound principles of Basic Strategy and Money Management, what we would consider “Good Hands” won’t make that much of a difference to your overall game.

Think about it.  You have to place your wager before the hands are dealt.  Anything you think you know about the cards that are coming your way might also be called indigestion.  You can’t possibly know.  So, you make your wager and take your chances.  Some hands will be good and some will not.  That’s Gambling!

Like all games, Blackjack is based on percentages.  The House embellishes their percentage with certain options for the game that tilt the odds in their favor.  Of course, the odds are almost always in favor of the house anyway – don’t ever forget that.

One of the main points in learning to play Winning Blackjack is to understand that Blackjack is a game of percentages.    For now, let’s make sure you understand the beginning game.  Visit our gaming website for more detailed explanations.  Go to http://www.FantasyCasinoDealers.com.

For the most part you have little control over the cards but you do have control over how much you wager and how you play those cards.  If you stay with the principles of Basic Strategy and Money Management you put more control into your game.

Learn more about the elements of the game that you do have control over.  Go to http://www.LowdownReports.com/eShop.php, scroll down to How to Play Blackjack, The Blackjack Workshop and Play Winning Blackjack Cassette.  Define your game and start to improve the profit level of your playing sessions.

When you order the Blackjack Workshop you get all the information and support materials you need to set up a “Live Play” personal playing experience to build your confidence as a knowledgeable Blackjack player.  The abridged version contains the information and the rules, but not the support items for the “Live Play” sessions.  Nor does the abridged version include the one year of follow up consultation with The Blackjack Guru that comes with the Full Report.
